Bournemouth and Sunderland are being linked with a move for Rumarn Burrell, with the QPR striker emerging as a surprise attacking target ahead of the summer window.
The 25-year-old has taken a long route to this point, but that is exactly what makes the rumour interesting. Burrell has had to build his career step by step, from Grimsby Town and Middlesbrough to spells in Scotland with Falkirk and Cove Rangers, before returning to England and earning a move to QPR. Now, after proving himself in the Championship, Premier League clubs are starting to take notice.
Bournemouth's interest makes sense. Andoni Iraola's side need forwards who can run hard, press aggressively and attack space quickly. Burrell is not just a penalty-box striker. He has pace, physicality and the ability to stretch defences, which would make him a useful option in a Bournemouth squad that relies heavily on intensity.
His season stats explain why clubs are watching. Burrell has scored 10 goals and provided three assists in around 30 appearances for QPR this campaign. That is a strong return for a player in his first Championship season with the club, especially after stepping up from Burton Albion. Before that, he scored 11 goals for Burton in League One and hit 25 goals in all competitions for Cove Rangers, showing this is not just a one-season burst.
The key attraction is trajectory. Burrell has improved at every level. He has gone from Scottish League One to League One, then to the Championship, and has continued to score. That kind of upward curve often appeals to Bournemouth, who have been willing to target players before they become too expensive.
The fee could be the difficult part. QPR signed Burrell on a long contract until 2030, which gives them strong control. Reports around the player suggest QPR may look for a fee close to £10m if serious bids arrive. For Bournemouth, that is not outrageous in Premier League terms, but it is still a significant gamble on a striker who has not yet played top-flight football.
There is competition too. Wolves and Sunderland have also been linked, meaning Bournemouth may have to move quickly if they want to lead the race.
