Man Utd open contract talks with experienced star

18 May 2026 - 21:12

Manchester United have opened contract negotiations with goalkeeper Tom Heaton, according to the Manchester Evening News.

  • Chelsea to spend £325m on six signings under Xabi Alonso
  • Chelsea to sign £50m goalkeeper to replace Sanchez?
  • The Englishman has been the club's third-choice goalkeeper in the last few years, and his current contract expires on June 30.

United obviously value the vast experience of the 40-year-old shot-stopper and prefer to keep him for at least another 12 months.

It is claimed that the former Burnley man is likely to accept another short-term contract before taking charge as a coach in 2027/28.

Meanwhile, United are also expected to pursue a backup goalkeeper for Senne Lammens with Altay Bayindir set to head for the exit door.

The Turkish ace was denied a mid-season move to Besiktas as the Red Devils could not find a suitable replacement in the transfer market.

However, he is expected to leave this summer. The former Fenerbahce man has already agreed terms with Besiktas, who could pay £5m for him.

United have yet to identify a suitable successor for Bayindir.
