Chelsea are stepping up their interest in signing Sporting CP left-back Maxi Araujo, according to Record in Portugal.
The Blues parted ways with Marc Cucurella earlier this month. The Spaniard made the switch to Real Madrid in a deal worth £52 million.
They are now expected to pursue a quality replacement and reports claim that talks are already underway with the representatives of Araujo.
The Blues are also planning to hold formal talks with Sporting CP for the left-back as they anticipate high-profile interest from elsewhere too.
The Uruguayan primarily plays a left winger for his country and has been brilliant for them at the World Cup with two goals and an assist.
Manchester United are also admirers of the 26-year-old ace, who could be prised away from Sporting CP for around £43 million this summer.
Araujo has also been linked with Arsenal in recent months, but they are unlikely to pursue a new left-back unless there is a high-profile exit.
