Manchester United are aiming to beat Liverpool in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha this summer, according to Sky Sport Germany.
The Red Devils have already landed a new midfielder in Ederson from Atalanta. He is expected to formally join after the World Cup with Brazil next month.
United are weighing up a new marquee midfielder too. West Ham United's Mateus Fernandes is a prime target, but the £85 million price tag is proving prohibitive.
Hence, they are exploring alternatives and are now in contact with Nmecha's representative, who could be prised away for around £70 million, according to The Daily Mail.
Nmecha is open to returning to the Premier League, having spent more than a decade training in Manchester City's academy. He played three times for the Cityzens before moving on.
He is said to welcome the Red Devils' interest and it remains to be seen whether they make a formal approach for him in the coming days.
