Manchester United remain favourites to land West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes ahead of Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to Football Transfers.
The Portuguese had a fantastic Premier League season with the Hammers despite their relegation. He won an impressive six duels and two tackles per game with five recoveries on average.
Both United and Spurs have expressed an interest in signing him, but the 21-year-old has a clear desire to join the former. The Red Devils are currently reluctant to meet the asking price of £85m, but the midfielder is prepared to play the waiting game to join them.
The news is a huge blow for Spurs, who have earmarked him as a top target to bolster their midfield department alongside Newcastle United star Sandro Tonali in the current transfer window.
Spurs may have to look elsewhere in the coming weeks. They have been linked with Bournemouth's Alex Scott and he could emerge as a possible alternative to Fernandes this summer.
