Sunderland midfielder Granit Xhaka has informed Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso that he won't be joining the Blues.
The Swiss international recently opened the door for a reunion with Alonso, who was formerly his manager at Bayer Leverkusen.
Chelsea made an offer worth £8m for his services, but the proposal was immediately snubbed by the Black Cats.
Xhaka has since committed to staying with Sunderland, and he has now informed Alonso of the decision as well.
The former Arsenal man has personally spoken with the Spanish tactician to reaffirm his intention to stay on Wearside.
Alonso is eager to land a marquee midfielder this summer and may have to look elsewhere after failing to sign Xhaka.
Meanwhile, the Blues are still uncertain over the future of midfielder Enzo Fernandez despite Real Madrid no longer in the transfer race.
Manchester City and Arsenal are keeping tabs on the Argentine and could make transfer bids for the Argentine in the near future.
