Joaquin Seys on his way to Aston Villa?

Joaquin Seys on his way to Aston Villa?

15 July 2026 - 05:29

Aston Villa are reportedly showing interest in Club Brugge defender Joaquin Seys as they assess options on the left side of their back line this summer.

  • Chelsea receive €40m offer for wantaway winger
  • Xabi Alonso makes captaincy decision on Reece James
  • According to a July 15 report, Villa are admirers of the Club Brugge left-back and could view him as a potential replacement for Lucas Digne. The French defender could depart for Paris Saint-Germain, a scenario that would leave Villa needing to consider how best to reshape that area of the squad before the new campaign.

Seys has therefore emerged as a name to watch as Villa look at possible defensive reinforcements. The Midlands club are understood to be weighing up a bid for the Club Brugge player, though the situation appears to be linked in part to what happens with Digne. If PSG advance their interest and a deal for Digne becomes more realistic, Villa’s pursuit of a left-back could gather pace.

For now, the move remains at the interest stage, with no fee or contract details reported. Club Brugge’s stance has also not been outlined, meaning it is unclear what level of offer would be required to bring Seys to England.

Villa’s recruitment plans may depend on timing as much as valuation. Any exit for Digne would likely increase the urgency to secure a replacement, while keeping him could allow the club to be more patient in the market.

Seys fits the profile of a player being monitored as Villa prepare for different outcomes. Whether that interest develops into a formal transfer remains to be seen, but the Club Brugge defender is now firmly in the conversation as Villa consider their options.
