Manchester United have missed out on landing Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes ahead of Aston Villa this summer.
The Red Devils have already recruited Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos to bolster their midfield, but they are eyeing another midfield recruit.
Gomes was offered to the club earlier this month, and it was claimed that they could enter negotiations with Wolves for the Brazil international.
However, Villa have now won the race for his services. They have agreed on a package worth £38m with Wolves for the former Flamengo man.
Gomes has already agreed personal terms with the Villans, and he is thrilled by the prospect of playing Champions League football for the first time.
The defensive midfielder was also on the radar of Liverpool, but like United, they did not proceed with a formal bid before the Villans.
Gomes will now make the switch across the Midlands to Villa, who have signed him as a replacement for the recently departed Youri Tielemans.
