Hiddink slams Russian side

Hiddink slams Russian side

11 June 2008 - 00:17

Russia boss Guus Hiddink slammed his side after his side were put to the sword by an impressive looking Spain side in the Euro 2008 match between the two on Tuesday afternoon. David Villa (3) and Cesc Fabregas saw off Hiddink's side.

  • Chelsea suffer double injury blow ahead of Villa trip
  • Gabriel Magalhaes to sign new Arsenal deal

  • Hiddink was quick to hit out at his defenders, after Valencia striker David Villa made easy work three times to score the first hattrick of the tournament.

“If you see the second goal, if you see the fourth goal, some school teams don’t make those errors,” Hiddink quipped.

“It’s not the members of the defence, it’s a matter of the whole team, knowing when the fire starts and knowing when to be firemen.

“To be honest, I was rather angry at half-time because of this naïve behaviour.

“We were rather naïve in various situations, we had a lesson in being punished by the counter-attack.”
