Mellberg ready for Spain test

Mellberg ready for Spain test

11 June 2008 - 20:32

Sweden and Juventus defender Olof Mellberg is wary of the threat that Spain will bring as he prepares for the weekend's Euro 2008 game. Spain and Sweden both sit comfortably at the top of their group.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • Mellberg said: "When Spain get going as a team, they are very hard to beat, they are dangerous going forward and [Fernando] Torres and [David] Villa showed that against Russia. They have other dangerous players as well.

"This is my fifth consecutive tournament so I know how important it is to get off to a good start, for the atmosphere of the group and everything. We've managed to come back before after not the best of starts but it's important to start off well.

"It's difficult to compare this team to previous sides, who have gone really close and nearly all the way. I think we have a good chance but we need to work hard like we did against Greece and play our game. Hopefully, we can be one of the outsiders."
