New Valencia manager optimistic

10 July 2008 - 07:06

New Valencia president Juan Villalonga officially took over from Juan Soler on Wednesday afternoon and outlined his ambition and optimism for the future of Los Che.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • Villalonga is from Valencia itself and is noted as a successful business. He replaces the former Valencia chairman Juan Soler at the helm at Mestalla and has been quick to distance himself from the previous regime.

Soler took over the club in October 2004 but since then the club has not manged to win any silverware except the Copa del Rey last season and were actually threatened with relegation until the final few weekends of the 2007-2008 season.

Juan Villalonga, the former chairman of the Telefonica corporation, said:

"This project aims to convert Valencia into a team that wins titles and aggrandises, even more, the Valencian badge in the fields of sporting, cultural, and economic development."
