Atletico give up Silva chase

Atletico give up Silva chase

11 July 2008 - 14:40

Spanish club Atletico Madrid have admitted that they have relinquished all their hopes of landing the Valencia hotshot David Silva this summer.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • Atletico Madrid have been busy scanning the transfer market in the last few days and have made a few signings as well. They have also been linked with a move to take on board the Valencia star David Silva this summer.

There were reports that Atletico had made a bid for the player. But now Atletico have virtually surrendered themselves and have said that they cannot match the asking price of Valencia for the 22-year old Spanish international winger.

The club's sporting director Jesús García Pitarch said:

"After his performances in the European Championships it is no impossible. Frankly speaking, I think Silva has always been out of reach of any Spanish club.

"Now though Villa will probably sign for Madrid and Silva will go to Barcelona."

"Things are very slow, but we have the advantage of having started early. Many clubs are only beginning to move onw. If you want to sign a couple of players now, you cannot guarantee that you will be able to."
