Becks eyes 2010 World Cup

10 September 2008 - 10:12

David Beckham believes that he still could be part of the England squad for the 2010 World Cup, if they qualify. Beckham is confident that he can prove to Fabio Capello he is worthy a place in the side.

  • He said: "That's certainly my target. It's a massive challenge for me and I don't know whether or not I'll make it, but that's where I want to be.

"My age isn't an issue, as far as I'm concerned, and as long as I stay fit I can help England get to the next World Cup and play a significant part in South Africa itself.

"I've always said I'll never retire from international football and that's still my position. Pulling on that shirt means so much to me.

"I have something to offer, but it's not up to me whether I play. Mr Capello will make that decision and I have great respect for his judgment."
