Pires eyes special revenge

Pires eyes 'special revenge'

17 September 2008 - 12:28

Villarreal midfielder Robert Pires is eyeing a 'special revenge' ahead of tonight's crucial Champions League game against Man Utd. The former Arsenal midfielder believes that Villarreal can win the tie, despite the doubters.

  • Chelsea plan shock swoop for Sporting CP star
  • Chelsea have clear stance on signing Victor Osimhen
  • “The truth is that I am very happy because I have the luck to return to a competition that is the pinnacle for a footballer," said Pires.

"Without doubt for every footballer it is the best competition there is.

“Personally speaking, it is a special kind of revenge. The last time I competed in it, I lost in the final two years ago against Barcelona.

“We are going to play our football and try to do the things that we do in every match.

“I don’t think the English will scare us because of the money they have.

“It’s true that they have a lot of money and good players but money doesn’t play football and make sure of victory.

“For us, we have to play the same way against Manchester United as against Aalborg.

“We have to go with the same mentality and, above all, we have to play good football, like we have done the last two years.

“If we do all this, then we can win, there’s no doubt.”
