Barton goal seals Toon win

Barton goal seals Toon win

29 October 2008 - 05:51

Returning midfielder Joey Barton played a hand in Newcastle's 2-1 win in the Premiership against West Brom, as he grabbed a goal to mark the club's first win since August 23rd.

  • Chelsea showing serious interest in 23yo England star
  • Chelsea & Liverpool serious about signing Roma star
  • Newcastle completely dominated the first half and could easily have gone ahead after just 30 seconds when Damien Duff played in Ameobi whose shot was hacked clear.

At half time this was a game that looked all but over, but typical of Newcastle they lost their way when substitute Ishmael Miller struck midway through the second period to inflict a nervous finish for the Geordies.

An opening goal for United seemed only a matter of time and it duly arrived after nine minutes after Ryan Donk sent Ameobi crashing inside the box.

Barton quickly seized the ball to make it known he was putting himself on the spot and proceeded to sent Carson the wrong way.

Zuiverloon bagged an own goal for Newcastle, as Martins headed home a cross from Habib Beye.

Ishmael Miller's arrival and his powerful presence posed plenty of problems and he did pull back a goal after 65 minutes, when he latched on to a slide-rule pass from Robert Koren to round Given and fire into the empty net.
