Wembley to host UEFA CL 2011 final

The new Wembley has been chosen as the stadium to host the 2011 UEFA Champions League final. Wembley came ahead of Munich's Allianz Arena and Berlin's Olympiastadion.

  • UEFA has chosen Wembley to host the 2011 Champions League final. The English FA chairman said that he is delighted on hearing this news.



    "This is fantastic news for London and the UK and is acknowledgement of Wembley’s ranking alongside the very best football stadiums in the world. " he said.



    Dublin's Lansdowne Road is the venue for UEFA Cup final, 2011. The UEFA Cup will be known as Europa League.



    Munich's Allianz Arena will host the 2012 edition of the final and Bucharest's National Stadium will host the Europa League (UEFA Cup) final in that year.



    Wembley has always been the venue for big matches and it has a history and tradition that will inspire Europe's best players.



    The old Wembley last hosted the final in 1992, when Barcelona defeated Sampdoria to claim the title. It was the season before the competition became the champions league.
