FA Cup - Blackburn 2-1 Sunderland

Blackburn gets into the fifth round of FA Cup by defeating Sunderland 2-1 at Extra Time. Benny McCarthy scored the winner for them in the dying minutes of extra time.

  • The super-sub Benny McCarthy saves Blackburn in FA Cup tie against Sunderland. He scored the winner with just three minutes remaining in the extra time.



    Blackburn will play Coventry City in the FA Cup fifth round at home.



    McCarthy, the South African striker, came off the bench to head in a Carlos Villanueva free kick in the 117th minute of the game to steer Blackburn to the next round.



    Sunderland took an early lead, David Healy finding the net in seventh minute, and Mokoena equalising it after 30 mintues. The scores were level at 1-1 at the end of the normal time.
