  • Rafael Benitez believes that Agger will sign an improved long term contract with Liverpool in the coming days.

The Danish international was speculated to be wanting out of Anfield when his contract expires this year.

AC Milan, Juventus and Barcelona were reportedly in talks with the player, trying to lure him with improved wage offers. Agger is no on a £50,000 a week contract.

The latest reports from Liverpool say that Benitez and Agger's agent, Steffensen, has agreed for a £70,000 a week wage for the player.

"We are very close to agreeing a deal, we will have a solution soon," said Benitez.

Liverpool has successfully extended the contract of players like Gerrard and Kuyt recently.
