Châteauroux's midfield gem Valery Mezague has emerged as a target for Ricky Sbragia's Black Cats this summer, and Sunderland are ready to offer £650,000 for his services.
Mezague spent a season on loan at Portsmouth when Alain Perrin was in charge, and impressed despite being a bit-part player.
He later moved on to Sochaux, and proved himself to be a valuable member of the first team.
If Sunderland survive in the Premiership after today, it is understood that Sbragia's will be looking for some experienced backup for his midfield, and the 25 year old represents great value.
