Martin Jol heads home to Ajax

The Hamburg manager, Martin Jol, is back home after five long years to take charge at Ajax and has signed a three year deal with them. The former Spurs boss is highly rated at homeland after his huge success in Bundesliga.

  • Ajax today appointed Martin Jol as their boss on a three-year contract. He had led Hamburg to UEFA Cup semi-final and finished fifth with them in the Bundesliga.



    Martin Jol had worked in the Eredivise with Waalwijk RKC five years ago, after which he joined Tottenham as assistant coach of Jacques Santini. He is highly regarded in his homeland, Ajax's cheif executive Rick van den Boog said that, <i> "Martin is the best man for the most important position in our football club, he has all the qualities that a new Ajax coach should have." </i>



    Martin Jol will succeed another Dutch superstar, Marco van Basten, who resigned with one game of the season remaining after he failed to help the team to qualify for the Champions League.
