Birmingham's pursuit of Craig Gardner is coming to a close as they took a step closer to finally landing the player today.

Birmingham chief Peter Pannu said: "Our offer for Craig Gardner is still on the table and we are pretty close to a deal.''



Gardner had fallen out of favour at Aston Villa, and Martin O'Neill allowed the player to quit.
