Sunderland are close to sealing a move for Belgium under-21 international goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, according to reports. The player currently has a contract with St Truiden, who are ready to let the player leave. PSV Eindhoven had also been linked with the shot stopper.

  • “The deal is not yet finished but we are nearly there and if it happens it will be a dream come true for Simon,” his agent Guy Vandersmissen explained.

“He saw the facilities at the weekend, and met with Nigel Spink and Steve Bruce, and he just had a good feeling about Sunderland.

“There will be more discussions next week, but the two clubs are not far away from agreeing a transfer fee, they are more or less there now.

“It is not yet complete, but I expect that everything will be okay.”
