McLeish praise for Zigic

McLeish praise for Zigic

06 December 2010 - 06:45

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish has reserved special praise for Serbian striker Nikola Zigic after his inspired performance helped the Blues to a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea.

  • Chelsea open to selling midfielder for £100m amid Real Madrid interest
  • Xabi Alonso to replace Arne Slot at Liverpool?
  • Although Zigic hasn't set the Premiership alight with goals galore, the tall striker has been hugely influential in the progression of Birmingham this year.

McLeish said of the forward: “Today that’s as good as I’ve seen him. In terms of being unplayable we have been working hard with the big fellow to get into that kind of mode.

“I’ve felt like that about Peter Crouch for a long time, sometimes he can be unplayable but it didn’t come overnight for big Peter and it’s not overnight for Zigic, him coming into the English game at quite a late stage of his career, he’s 29 now, but the winning goal against Villa plus the performance when he came on in the second half [today] will increase his confidence.”
