Preview: Man Utd vs. Wigan

Preview: Man Utd vs. Wigan

06 October 2007 - 09:52

Wigan travel to Old Trafford as they attempt to make life hard for Man Utd who are dealing with an enormous injury list. Wigan sit a comfortable 12th this year, while a win for Man Utd can - temporarily - send them top of the league. Manchester United may use Ryan Giggs or Anderson in central midfield with Owen Hargreaves and Michael Carrick both ruled out through injury.

  • Chelsea want to sign Lyon star to replace Jadon Sancho
  • Arsenal want to bring Aymeric Laporte back to England

  • Manchester United will be out to stretch the joint longest current winning sequence in the Premier League to six matches. However, their chances may be severely dented with injuries to Carrick, Hargreaves, van der Sar, Silvestre, Fletcher, Park and Foster.

Sir Alex Ferguson expects a tough game against Wigan, "What's happening at the moment is unusual for us, every team is waiting for a deluge.

"It will happen, we will score goals, unfortunately it has not come as quick as I would like but we are playing well enough, creating the chances and it will happen.

"It's great, we get criticised for winning 1-0. If we win 5-1 people will say our defence is going to pieces. The team are coming together after a shaky start in terms of winning games."

A midweek break for Wigan may help Chris Hutchings side after Man Utd battled to a tough win over Roma on Tuesday.

But Wigan have not won in six. They have drawn two and lost four league and cup games since beating Sunderland 3-0 at home on 18 August.

    Man Utd 2-0 Wigan

A tough looking game for Man Utd but you have to question whether Chris Hutchings is the man to cut it for Wigan, a couple more defeats and he could be out of a job. Man Utd have the strength in depth to deal with the threat of Wigan who are severely missing Heskey.
