Wright-Phillips heading to Wigan

Wright-Phillips heading to Wigan

03 July 2011 - 04:50

Shaun Wright-Phillips is expected in Wigan to discuss contract terms next week. It is understood by eyefootball.com that Wigan and Man City have agreed a £7.5m fee for the England international.

  • Dutch star has travelled to London for Chelsea medical
  • Chelsea to focus on signing Dutch attacker after Hato

  • Wright-Phillips has found first team opportunities hard to come by under Roberto Mancini; so he is considering a move away from Manchester.

One stumbling block is the salary expected by the player. Wright Phillips is believed to be earning as much as £100,000 a week with Man City; a figure that will have to be cut by as much as 25 percent for the midfielder to join Wigan.

Wigan chairman Phil Whelan has, however, confirmed that a move for the England international is under way: "It's true that we are interested in Shaun Wright-Phillips and I am sure that he would love it at Wigan because in Roberto Martinez we have a great manager.

"But am I confident we can get him? Well confidence is something that you can't have at this time of the year.

"We would certainly like him to come to Wigan but we don't know what he wants in terms of wages. There is a long way to go, but Roberto does fancy bringing him to Wigan."
