Koscielny return to boost Arsenal?

With Arsenal currently preparing for two massive games in quick succession, their defence is once again likely to come under heavy scrutiny. The club's best defender by some distance, Thomas Vermaelen, is out of action until the new year, while Johan Djourou still isn't ready to play week in, week out for the Gunners, so the return of Laurent Koscielny earlier than expected should arguably be seen as a major boost to Arsenal's hopes.

When Arsenal sold Thierry Henry during the summer, the media coverage raged over the believed certainty of Arsenal's demise. Thierry was the best ever player in the history of the club, grabbing 226 goals in 369 games. How could Arsenal maintain their top 4 finish without their talismanic skipper? 5 games in to the new season, Arsenal are perched at the top of the league; the club still playing the free-flowing fast football of old - minus Thierry - and it looks as if that could be a blessing in disguise.

Francis Jeffers has become a Sheff Wed player this afternoon after completing his transfer from Blackburn. The 26-year old has joined for a fee said to be around £700,000.
