Newcastle United have reportedly joined Manchester United in the race to sign Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic.

The Croatian has eight months remaining on his contract with the Nerazzurri, and they have failed to convince him to extend his deal.

He can sign a pre-contract with a foreign club in January and it appears that the Magpies could compete with United for his services.

The Red Devils are keen to find a replacement for Paul Pogba, who could leave them on a free transfer when his contract expires next summer.

Brozovic is one of the top names on their radar, but the Magpies are ready to provide competition following their Saudi-led takeover.

The Tyneside outfit have ambitious plans after the change of ownership, and there could be significant spending in the near future.

However, there are doubts whether players would be willing to join them at the current point of time when they are battling relegation.

The club are currently six points adrift of safety. The hierarchy are expected to address the concern with high-profile signings in January.
