Benfica, Lyon want Altidore
New York Red Bulls' star striker Jozy Altidore is rumoured to be close to making a switch to Europe, with Benfica, Lyon and Villarreal all interested in the striker who is taking the MLS by storm.
Regarded as one of the best prospects in the MLS, the player is known to be close friends with Benfica's US attacker Freddy Adu who has recommended Benfica to the NY Red Bulls player.
In fact, Altidore has been such a revelation this season that he has been invited to join the US international team's training camps starting this week.
Altidore, 18, recently returned from participating on the U.S. U-23 National Team that two friendlies against the Chinese U-23 National Team, but already made his first full appearance against South Africa in a friendly.
Last season the American grabbed 9 goals in just 15 starts in the MLS. If Altidore makes the move, his value could be anything more than £4.5 million; but the price is unconfirmed.
