Bayern win German Cup

Bayern Munich won the German Cup for the 14th time but needed extra time to see off Borussia Dortmund in Berlin. the game finished 2-1 and the match winner was Luca Toni.

Bayern were in brilliant form, and took the lead early on from the impressive Italian striker Luca Toni, who turned home a Franck Ribery cross to put Bayern 1-0 up.

However, Borussia Dortmund fought their way back into the game when Mladen Petric scored in the final minute of normal time to force extra time.

Luca Toni, however, was always destined to be the hero, and he deflected home lukas Podolski's shot past the Dortmund keeper Marc Ziegler toward the end of the first period of extra time.

Bayern boss Ottmar Hitzfeld said afterwards: "Obviously, leading the team out one last time here in Berlin is a tremendous farewell.

"There's no chance to make up for losing a game like this, you can't come back again next year, so we had to win it here or never.

"I'm overjoyed, because it was a dramatic game which had everything. Dortmund battled away and would equally have deserved to win."
