Javier Aguirre has revealed he was delighted to see his Atletico Madrid side secure Champions League qualification on Sunday, after a 1-0 defeat of Deportivo secured a place in the top four and reached their CL qualification target.

"I have thought the same since the start of the season and I will continue to think the same. We have done our duty and have done everything that was asked of us," he said.

"It was our obligation. It was the aim of the team from the start of the season and they have done their job.

"I have one more game against Valencia now and I am not thinking about my future. I will not speak about that until the end of the season.

"They hired me to do a job. I feel calm and am grateful to many people, especially the players and my coaching staff and the people that have faith in me, like my family."
