Ronaldo uncertain about future
Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo has unwittingly flared up transfer speculation by admitting that he is not sure whether he shall stay at Old Trafford after next week’s UEFA Champions League final or not.
Manchester United confront Chelsea in the final of Europe’s top tier club competition in Moscow and the 23-year old Portuguese says that he can’t be sure whether he shall be a Man United player after the match. Ronlado has been persistently linked with a move to the Spanish and European giants Real Madrid for the last two years.
This season though the speculation on the player’s future has intensified. Every other week there’s a quote in the Spanish press where a source close to Ronaldo says that the player wants to move to Real Madrid, something that both Man United and Ronaldo deny with immediate effect.
This time the player has again been quoted as saying that although he is happy playing for Manchester United at the moment, he does foster the dream of playing in Spain before long. And what’s more, Ronaldo fails to establish whether he shall play for the Red Devils next season or not.
Ronaldo is quoted as saying:
“I am feeling happy here and I am feeling calm here. But let us see what happens after the Champions League final. I am feeling happy but in the future I don't know.
"I have said a million times that I would like to play [in Spain], but it is one thing to dream and quite another to understand the reality.
"I don't know the club [Real Madrid] at all. But I know they like the way I play and I know that other teams in Spain like my game as well. It is good to know that they like my game, but I am happy here.”
Real Madrid general director Miguel Angel Arroyo has insisted that club is ready to break the bank to land the player at the Bernabeu. Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon is reported to have said that Ronaldo is always welcome at Madrid and can join the Merengues whenever he ants to.
Real Madrid are reported to be so eager to import the player as soon as they possibly can that they are eager to splash out £40 million as a transfer fee and pay Cristiano Ronaldo a staggering £200,000-a-week salary, which would make the Portuguese by far the highest paid footballer in the world.
