Spurs defender hints at Modric stay

27 August 2011 - 06:11

Tottenham defender Benoit Assou-Ekotto has insisted that Luka Modric will stay at the club. Chelsea were believed to be chasing Modric as part of a 40m GBP deal.

  • Chelsea planning shock move for Man City winger?

  • Assou-Ekotto said: “It is good for the team but more important if he stays he has to stay and be happy.

“If he stays and he is not happy there is no point to keep one player who is not happy in the team.

“We are happy if he stays and I hope he will be happy for the rest of the season. When I asked him if he was happy he said ‘Yeah, if I move it is good, if I don’t move I am not at a bad club’.

“He understands the chairman as he wants to have a good team so he has to keep his player.”
