Chelsea will make a surprise offer for Bolton defender Gary Cahill when the transfer window reopens in January. Andre Villas-Boas is closely monitoring Cahill's situation after a move to Tottenham broke down.
Arsenal and Tottenham failed to agree a fee with Cahill's club Bolton, and subsequently ended their pursuit of the England defender.
Cahill scored his first goal for the national team in the 3-0 win over Bulgaria at the weekend, and Villas-Boas is impressed with the impact of the Bolton centre back.
Chelsea are ready to match the 16.5m GBP valuation that Bolton are looking for to release Cahill from his Bolton deal.
