Terry to miss Estonia game

John Terry has been ruled out of England's weekend game with Estonia. Terry pulled up in training on Wednesday and went for a scan on the injury on Thursday lunchtime. Although the damage is believed not to be too bad, Steve McLaren has informed the press he will not risk the Chelsea defender.

  • When speaking of Terry's injury the England boss confirmed: "John Terry had a scan on his left knee today and will not be fit for Saturday's game against Estonia.

"He will remain with the squad and his injury will be assessed on a daily basis with a view to Wednesday's match in Russia.

"During this time, the England and Chelsea medical teams have been and will be in close communication."

Earlier in the week the England boss had said: "The team I pick for Estonia will be one I think can win that game," McClaren said. "But I will look at the bigger picture as well.

"I've got to take that into account," McClaren said. "Do we want to miss players for the next game and take that risk?"

On the dropping of Terry for one game, McLaren said: "If there is any risk medically, people would know and he wouldn't take that risk. He says he doesn't want to miss any games and have any regrets at the end of his career."
