Pique: Guardiola will sign new deal

Pique: Guardiola will sign new deal

12 October 2011 - 22:03

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique claims that he is confident that coach Pep Guardiola will sign a contract extension with the club.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Man Utd serious about signing Rafael Leao
  • Guardiola normally signs only one year contract extensions as he feels that this keeps him on his toes. However, he is yet to renew for the next season, with Inter keeping an eye on him.

However, defender Gerard Pique is still unconcerned as he believes that the coach will extend his contract out of sheer love for the club.

"I don't want to put any pressure on Guardiola. He will do things at his own tempo, like he has done every year. He has always signed a new deal, though, and I believe he'll do so again this year," Pique told El Mundo Deportivo.

"He loves his job here and the players believe in him. I think this team is the best in history and should never be broken up. Pep doesn't have any reason to leave the club."

Guardiola took over the reins of the first team from Frank Rijkaard in the summer of 2008.
