Chelsea captain Terry denies racial abuse

24 October 2011 - 06:11

Chelsea defender John Terry has denied using racist language against Anton Ferdinand during the Blues' 1-0 defeat to QPR at the weekend.

  • Confirmed Man Utd line-up vs Liverpool, Matheus Cunha starts
  • Chelsea quoted price to sign Igor Thiago
  • A series of comments on internet chat rooms seemed to suggest that Terry used an offensive phrase against Terry.

"I'm disappointed people have leapt to the wrong conclusions about the context of what I was seen to be saying to Anton Ferdinand," Terry said.

"I would never say such a thing, and I'm saddened people would think so.

"I'm disappointed that people have leapt to the wrong conclusions about the context of what I was seen to be saying to Anton Ferdinand. I thought Anton was accusing me of using a racist slur against him. I responded aggressively, saying that I never used that term."
