Lampard reveals secret to beat Spain

12 November 2011 - 06:23

The 33-year old Chelseaman believes that the young English squad will strive to show what they are capable of against the La Furia Roja. Lampard has been in great scoring form in the English Premier League leading the goal chart for Chelsea.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • Lampard said on Friday, "You have to believe in yourselves and see their weaknesses. We have to be bold, we have to stand up."

The captain's words are certainly inspiring for the youngsters in the team. However, defeating Spain would be a tough task. They have a star studded team who likes to dominate every game that they play - just like Barcelona.

Lampard had a few encounters with Barcelona in the Champions League and they are one of the teams who had played against the Catalans and found some success. With eight players from Barcelona, Spain would mostly play with a similar style.

They attack constantly and press right up the pitch to win the ball back. Lampard thinks that England needs to stay in the middle of the pitch and work hard to be tight and win the ball. He believes that the young and fast English attack could start a counter attack from the middle of the pitch.

"I've played them twice at Stamford Bridge. We beat them 4-2 a few years before. Our pitch is quite tight and we could put the pressure on them. Wembley's big like Nou Camp, unfortunately."

Winning a game against Spain would probably be the most difficult job as a captain. If Lampard can inspire England to win it, they could build on that.
