Wales manager Gary Speed found dead

The football world is in shock this morning as Wales manager Gary Speed has been found dead in his home. The 42 year old was found hanged in his house, and there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. Speed's death appears to be suicide.

  • Speed took charge of the Wales team back in December of 2010, and recent form suggested an amazing turnaround of fortunes under Speed. Speed helped Wales to three successive victories with a 4-1 victory over Norway.



    A statement from the Welsh FA read: "The Football Association of Wales are sad to announce the death of the national team manager Gary Speed. We extend our sympathies and condolences to the family. We ask that everyone respects the family's privacy at this very sad time."



    Meanwhile, the Cheshire police have said: "At 7.08am today Cheshire Police was informed of a sudden death at an address in Huntingdon, Chester. Officers went to the scene where a 42-year-old man was found dead. The next of kin have been informed and have confirmed the identity of the man as Gary Speed."
