Ajax could turn to Cristian Chivu as a replacement for Jan Verthongen, who is expected to quit the Amsterdam Arena in the January transfer window, reportedly for Tottenham.

Ajax are preparing a 3.5m GBP offer for the Inter Milan defender, who has told reporters in recent weeks that he would be ready to quit the San Siro.<br />
