Lyon's manager Remi Garde expects to keep Aly Cissokho at the club until the end of the season, as he looks to turn down the reported interest of Newcastle for the talented full back.
"Aly has become more of a regular", said Garde.
"And his goal is to find a way into the France team.
"I wonder if Lyon is not the best place to achieve this goal."
Cissokho has been linked with a 5m GBP move to the Premier League, but will instead stay put in France.
