Man Utd deny Wayne Rooney exit talk

07 January 2012 - 17:01

Manchester United have issued a statement where they strongly deny that striker Wayne Rooney will be leaving the club in the January transfer window. Sir Alex Ferguson fined Wayne Rooney after being spotted out for dinner with team mates on Boxing Day, prior to a crucial game.

  • Sir Alex Ferguson subsequently dropped Wayne Rooney for their next Premier League game, and the England international forward was reportedly fuming. According to the Independent, Sir Alex Ferguson had grown tired of Rooney and would let the striker leave.

But a statement on Manchester United's official website denied the story and read: "Manchester United and Wayne Rooney have been made aware of the theme of an article in tomorrow's Independent newspaper.

"We have not seen the detail but can assure all United fans that the Manager and the Club are committed to Wayne Rooney and Wayne is committed to the Manager and the Club.

"The player and the Manager have always had and retain, the utmost respect for each other and look forward to working together in the coming seasons. Any suggestion that Manchester United and Wayne Rooney are to part company is complete nonsense."
