Wigan scouting Carlos Darwin Quintero

Wigan scouting Carlos Darwin Quintero

23 January 2012 - 06:39

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez has sent a scout to Mexico to watch Colombian international striker Darwin Quintero in action for Santos Laguna. According to reports, Wigan were recommended the forward by fellow countryman Hugo Rodallega.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • It appears that Wigan look set to lose Rodallega at the end of the season on a free transfer, as the Colombian international has so far failed to agree terms on a new contract at the DW Stadium.

However, eyefootball understands that Wigan have already been tracking replacements for Rodallega, and that the club have been scouting fellow countryman Quintero for several weeks.

Quintero should have no problem securing a work permit in England as he already has 12 caps for his country and is on the fringes of a first team place for the national team. Santos Laguna will reportedly demand around 4.3 million USD for the player who has previously spent time in Europe before, playing for little known Russian side Krylia.
