A Walk in the Park for The Lions

16 March 2012 - 05:20

Athletic Bilbao won comfortably against English giants Man Utd at the San Mames, producing a brilliant attacking display, same as what happened in Old Trafford in the first leg. The Lions dominated the game from start to end, could have won for a better goal margin if they hadn't wasted many opportunities. Rooney scored a late consolation goal for Man Utd.

  • Gary Neville breaks silence on Ruben Amorim
  • Confirmed Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Brentford, Estevao absent

  • From the start, Athletic played a very high defensive line and pressed United all over the pitc. They passed effectively and quick, exchanged many one-twos and looked comfortable in distributing the ball. The Spanish side showed great intensity in the game and clearly deserved to win.

Fernando Llorente scored off a brilliant volley in the 23rd minute, smashing the ball to De Gea's far post. He also squandered a sitter from a rebound when Munian's strike came off the post.

Bilbao's full-back Iraola danced through Man Utd defence before sending it inches wide. De Marcos scored in the second half to make it 2-0.

Athletic's game seemed to be light years ahead of the English league leaders and it clearly says why La Liga is a class apart. United has a lot to learn from The Lions.
