Weddings in football stadiums - trend on the rise

08 January 2013 - 02:31

Many clubs all over Europe are finding extra uses for their stadiums, as they struggle a crippling recession in order to find other funds other than player sales and gate receipts. One such club is Colchester United, who are hiring out their stadium for use for fans on their wedding days.

  • Chelsea join Liverpool & Man Utd in race to sign 26yo
  • Barcelona identify Arsenal midfielder as key transfer target

  • Whilst some clubs actually hire out all or part of their stadiums or stands for fans' wedding days,  others are simply using function suites or bars for rental.

Some of these rooms host up to 1000 guests, and Colchester United have room for up to 1000 fans at one of their suites.

According to Essex wedding blog Precious Moments Essex, this is no new trend and is on the rise all over Europe. In Germany, several Bundesliga sides have hosted weddings for some of their players - or at least after ceremony parties - and this could be another trend as clubs look for new ways to generate finance.
