Wigan boss Martinez dreams of FA Cup upset

11 May 2013 - 05:45

Wigan Athletic's manager Roberto Martinez told reporters that he has dreamt of watching his side defeat Premier League stars Manchester City in today's FA Cup Final at Wembley.

  • Arsenal handed injury boost on defender ahead of Bournemouth clash
  • Chelsea planning shock move for Man City winger?

  • It's been a meteoric rise for Wigan, who have shuffled up the divisions to reach England's top flight in 2005. Since then Roberto Martinez has ensured some stability, keeping them in the Premier League year after year.

Currently in the midst of a relegation dogfight, manager Martinez is hopeful that he can pull off a major upset and guide Wigan to FA Cup final success.

'Just arriving in the final is a photographic moment in the history of our football club. Winning a major trophy would take our club to a different level,' said manager Roberto Martinez.

'We are all well aware what this could mean. There are a billion people watching this game.

'It is one of those key moments that help develop awareness.

'When we signed Roger Espinoza he was already a Wigan fan, which makes you aware of our exposure around the world is bigger than many people think.

'But tomorrow is as good as it gets and we need to take advantage.'
