Arsenal are prepared to pursue a marquee striker to replace Viktor Gyokeres in either January or at the end of the season.
The Gunners were open to parting ways with Gyokeres over the summer, and he was reportedly a target for Atletico Madrid.
Atletico were open to signing Gyokeres in a player-plus-cash deal for Julian Alvarez, but the latter refused to join the Gunners.
Gyokeres was happy to stay with the Gunners, but he has hardly played in the Premier League with Kai Havertz leading the line.
Havertz has proved his worth with three goals across all competitions, while Gyokeres has yet to find the back of the net this term.
It is now revealed that Arsenal are still looking for a marquee number nine and made a late offer for Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez this summer.
They are also targeting several more high-profile names. If a new signing is made, it could pave the way for Gyokeres' departure.
Gyokeres won't be short of offers. Aside from Atletico, Barcelona and Juventus are among his admirers alongside Saudi clubs.
