Arsenal star Wilshere eyes England captaincy

21 May 2013 - 03:33

Jack Wilshere is hopeful that he will one day captain his country. The midfielder currently has 7 caps for the national team but is widely considered as a long term replacement in England's midfield after Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard retire.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • Injury has so far blighted the youngster's career, but Wilshere is still widely regarded as one of the best prospects ever to come from Arsenal's youth academy.

"I want to captain Arsenal and I want to captain England. That definitely appeals to me. It's my ultimate dream. People say players are no longer bothered about wearing the England shirt," said Wilshere.

"But for me it's the pinnacle of my job because club rivalries go out of the window and the entire nation comes together behind you - it's the best feeling."
