Chelsea have joined the hunt for Spanish wonder-kid Thiago Alcantara. The interest from Jose Mourinho led club comes after a stunning first-half hat-trick that Thiago scored against Italy in the final game of the European U21 championship that saw his team clinch the title with a 4-2 win.
Despite the newly developed interest from Chelsea, it is understood that Manchester United are still leading the race with a good margin. Chelsea have reportedly made contact with Thiago’s representatives but United’s efforts to foster this transfer in their favour are in much more advanced stage, considering the fact that the Moyes led scouting network has been in repeated contact with the player as well as the Camp Nou.
Thiago’s market worth presently is about 15.4million pounds which after July will rocket back to 77million pounds so this brief window is being looked upon as an opportunity for the European clubs who would like to sign this U21 Spanish captain.
A source from United told ESPN that even though the club were “quietly confident” of securing the player but the sudden interest from Chelsea has undoubtedly concerned them. Both the teams are intent on strengthening their midfield ahead of the next season.
Also, it is understood that given a chance Thiago would not miss the opportunity to link up with his former manager Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich but as of now the Champions league winners have not shown any interest in Alcantara.
