23 June 2013 - 06:39

Napoli manager Rafa Benitez will secure a deal that sees Belgium international Dries Mertens join the Italian side. A fee of around 10 million Euros has been agreed with Mertens' current club PSV Eindhoven.

  • Aurelio De Laurentiis has been in constant discussion with Benitez regarding potential transfer targets this month. It is certain to be a busy time in Naples, as Edinson Cavani has been persistently linked with a move away to Real Madrid and various Premier League sides.<br />

Napoli have now moved quickly to secure a move for Mertens, who had been attracting interest from Tottenham and Liverpool.<br />

"Dries Mertens underwent medical tests for Napoli today. The Belgian winger landed at Capodichino airport and then was taken to Cerreto Sannita medical centre (Benevento)," said a statement on Napoli's official website.<br />

"The tests were passed and were carried out by Napoli medical staff."<br />

Mertens scored 16 goals last year in 29 games for PSV in the Dutch top division.
