Pontus Farnerud is being considered by Steve Coppell as a potential signing for the January transfer window. The versatile midfielder currently plays for Sporting Lisbon, but has played for Monaco and Strasbourg.

The 27-year-old is valued at around £2m, and is currently out of favour in Lisbon.



The player joined Sporting Lisbon on a free transfer in 2006, and several Premiership clubs monitored his progress when he was a youngster at Landskrona in Sweden.



Farnerud was part of Sweden's 2002 World Cup squad and he also made Sweden's squad for UEFA EURO 2004, although he did not play in Portugal. Prior to the start of the 2006/07 season, however, he had not played for his country since June 2004.
